The Eye, Life, History

Few photographic productions go through  the italian history of the post war period, with the same attention, acute glance and critic sense, like Franco Pinna did. In his pictures we find not only the protagonists of the italian history, the most important events (the liberation of Rome, Togliatti's speeches, the death of Pope Giovanni XXIII), but even the rapresentation of the poor and humble people, the tragic tale of silent humanity excluded from the big scenary of history.

In his pictures all the contraddiction of a nation, the political willing of forget about social and economic conflicts in the generic name of the "modernity", later called "economic boom". The Italy shown by Pinna through his psycholocical analysis of his subjects, is the perfect rappresentation of the deep contrasts between personal feelings and national identity, private glance and social portrait. The neorealistic photography is rapresented by Pinna in the highest level without those rethoric accents that so often caracterize the cinematographic production of that period.
