Why only cats?

Why not? An exhaustive answer is given in Biografia (sorry, only in Italian)

What's the association among Evelyne Nicod, enicod and gatteria?

Evelyne Nicod is the artist name, enicod is the signature, to be found in all her works, and gatteria is her trade mark.

What's the meaning of Gatteria ®?

You will not find the word gatteria on any dictionary. It is a word first invented in april 1989, as the title of an art exhibition, where all the paintings were about cats (the italian word for cat is gatto). Later it became the sign of an art gallery on lake of Garda and was registered as a trade mark in 1990. Therefore, no use is allowed. If referred to, it must be followed by the ® mark, and by the indication that it is a registered trade mark of Evelyne Nicod.

What's an etching?

It is an old manual technique, which consists in drawing with a needle on a plate (typically zinc or copper) protected with an acid resistant varnish. The plate is then etched (typically with nitric acid). Colour is applied by hand on the warmed plate, which is then passed with a sheet of moisted paper between the two rollers of a printing press, obtaining what is called an original print. the above procedure is repeated for each print. No two prints are alike.

Why all this emphasis about copyright?

Evelyne Nicod is a professional painter and the creation of a big painting or etching may take hundreds of hours. Her creations are protected by copyright laws, therefore you're welcome to enjoy her work, which is presented here as an example of her technique: but it's just for seeing, no other use is allowed.
