CARMELO  SAMMARTINO

Painter, engraver, constructionalist and visual arts operator. His style could be termed figurative, informal or multimaterial. Studied Pedagogy at Rome University and Psychology at Padua University and organised educational courses in the visual arts. He then went on to study Engraving and the History of Art at the Brescia School of Fine Art. Has illustrated magazines, front covers, and research projects as well as exhibiting widely in Italy and abroad.

“Carmelo Sammartino’s painting is real painting. It plainly and simply transmits us its poetic message… He captures our attention and knows how to direct it to concentrate on that precise point of the painting which he has chosen. He creates a centre of interest and, with his immediate and direct visual language, knocks us out.

Sammartino’s painting is direct, concrete, balanced, and not elusive. There are no allusions, things that are announced and not said or left to chance. Everything is explicit with no simulation. Genuine. Everything has been taken into consideration, planned, already verified…”.

"Cordae" are the silent string threads on geometrical forms which define the mathematical structure of the matter. The operation is definite Costruttivista Abstraction. In quality of historian of the art I hear myself to share the assumed, recognizing in it strokes of that attitude of systematic reflection on the genesis of the forms what anchor induces to search for ways of overturning of the artistic vision. "here, one arrives to decompose the material body in many shared out chromatic then ideally to reassemble it with the support of visual suggestions".
