Se non siete sicuri su chi sia Gloria Gaynor, probabilmente conoscerete la sua canzone più famosa, "I
Will Survive." Ancor oggi tra le canzoni più conosciute della disco music, le fece guadagnare
il titolo di 'First Lady of Disco' - La Primadonna della Disco.
Ma la Gloria Gaynor che cantava quetsa canzone con tanta ammirazione nel 1979 non è la stessa Gloria
che la sta cantando adesso. Molte cose sono successe in questi diciassette anni.
Lei sembra sempre uguale. Ma quello che si nota di più che ogni altra cosa, sono i suoi occhi. Brillano
- riflettono principalmente gioia e felicità che va oltre il comprensibile. "Do you know that I've
changed the words to 'I Will Survive'? Yes, I had to call the writers and ask them if I could change the words.
When I did, I was very pleased to learn that they'd become Christians too, since they first wrote it!"
You see, before she became a Christian, Gloria was convinced that she was one already. "Even as a very
small child I used to talk to God."
How it happened
In 1978, Gloria fell from the stage one night and injured her spine. She was in hospital for months and started
to read her Bible regularly. But she did not really pause to consider who Jesus was. As her public life seemed
to get better, her private life went downhill. She and husband Linwood started going to wild parties, and got into
marijuana and cocaine. She tried to get out of it, but knew she could not break with it on her own. She felt guilty
and was ashamed to go to church, or even pray to the God she thought she had known since a child.
After three years going downward, she began to stay home more, and look into who Jesus really was. "The
scripture that God used to save me was Isaiah 7.14, which today is still my favourite verse in the Bible. It says,
'For behold a virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Emmanuel.' Emmanuel means 'God with
us' and refers to Jesus!"
Slowly, Gloria was changed by her new faith. God miraculously took away her desire for alcohol, cigarettes and
marijuana. She discovered a freedom that she could not have found by herself.
She stopped singing for a time. "My fans wondered where I was and what I was doing. Now that I've come
back, I let them know why I'd dropped out, and that I'm back knowing that God wants me to bring a message to them.
Whether they are ready to become Christians or not, they seem pleased to hear that God loves them and that He's
waiting for them to make the right choice."
Gloria's new life and faith have meant that she has had to make sacrifices. But she says her greatest gain is
that now she's able to make Christ real to other people.

For my strength to live is not my own;
I will survive!"
Vorrei dire, per coloro i quali abbiano
capito cosa si dice nell'articolo qui sopra, che questo non è un incitamento a diventare "born-again
Xtians" (Believe in Yourself, first of all!), ma solo la storia della canzone "I will survive" che
è molto nota ancora oggi.

Jackson 5. Io preferisco la versione di Michael - manco a dirlo. Ah! Anche Mariah Carey ha cantato questa canzone...
2. Never Can Say Goodbye - Un altro successone dei Jackson 5. In questo caso, devo
ammettere che preferisco la Versione di Gloria Gaynor.
3. Mighty High - Non mi piace in modo particolare...
4. I Will Survive - No comments...
5. Strive - Carina. Giusto un po' pallosetta in quache punto ma....buona.
6. The First, The Last, My Everything - Ah!!! Gloria Gaynor che duetta con qualcuno
che non so chi sia (non mi sembra Barry) uno dei più grandi successi di Barry White. E' bellissima!
7. I say a little prayer - E questa? La canzone è stupenda. Tuttavia, preferisco
le versioni di Dionne Warwick e 'Ree Franklin. Quella di Dionne Warwick è la versione più bella di
tutte, secondo me. Questa versione, come interpretazione, è paragonabile alla versione di Diana King...
8. Oh Happy Day - Questa è una canzone famosa. Penso che sia una "Christmas
Carol". E' bella. E' quella che fa "Oh happy day, when Jesus born and washed my sins away". Although,
I must admit, that I like some of my sins...
9. Remember
10. I am what I am. Questa versione è più bella di quella che ho messo
sopra. Quella lassù è un po' più "Dance"..
11. Try a Little Tenderness
12. Reach out I'll be there - Bella. Questa è la versione più nota di
questa canzone. I'll be there to love and confort you....

17. I will always love you - Sì! Questa è quella canzone che canta Whitney
Houston nel film "La Guardia del corpo". Questa canzone l'ha scritta Dolly Parton. Dolly Parton non è
una pecora scozzese, ma è americana. Ha fatto l'attrice ed ha anche duettato con Julio Iglesias all'inizio
degli anni 90. La canzone è originariamente una canzone "country". W.H. ce l'ha "POPpata"
(ma ne esiste anche una versione pop cantata da uno del cast di una telenovela che si chiama "Beautiful"
- che di beautiful ha ben poco...) e Gloria Gaynor ce l'ha "DANCEata"...Mi piace di più la versione
di W.H...
