When
I asked the owner about the location of her dammuso she told me it was
located in Contrada Penna. Finally, I thought, I'll have a chance to see
this contrada. In fact after two years living in the island, to me Contrada
Penna was just a street sign along the coastal road. I knew the fork,
but for some unexplicable reason I never had the curiosity to take it
and see what contrada Penna looks like. So now you can undesrtand how
excited I was to go there to see a new property and see the place. My
expectation were satisfied: from the coastal road you start to go up in
the hill, through some houses, vineyards, flower gardens and a nice sense
of quietness embrace you. It was even better when I arrived at the house:
an extremely nice one with great external spaces with palm trees, succulent
plants and my favourite one: the red-purple bouganvillae in great strong
contrast with the black brown burned lava stones. Then add a great view
of our lord the sea, sweet caress of brother wind and the game is done:
I LOVE THIS PLACE! From the house you can enjoy the view of the sea and
of some other houses, also there is a huge terrace along the three sides
of the house. Right after the terrace there is a garden with palm trees,
succulents and best of all a small vineyard with Zibibbo grapes, the queen
of grapes, mother of the sweet wine produced in the island : the passito!
The entrance is trough a living room nicely furnished with some Indonesian
furniture and from two arch shaped wall you can go respectively to a big
eat-in-kitchen and a very bright aisle due a ceiling window.
The kitchen is spacious and bright and has an access trough a door to
the terrace covered with the typical "cannizzo" for great al-fresco diners!
Through the aisle you'll reach a double bedroom, a bathroom with shower
and the master double bedroom with a private bathroom with shower. For
those who's planning to rent the dammuso longer than a week it is important
to know that there is an external laundry room with a machine and iron!
The house features central heat, making this Dammuso excellent for your
unusual winter vacation.
Winter in Pantelleria means, walking through the path in the natural reserve
and looking for Porcini mushroom, going to the natural Sauna in the cave
of "Benikulą" or a warm bath in the natural hot spring of "Gadir". Or
maybe just relaxing in this very nice Dammuso to wash out- the city stress!!!
Be aware: in winter time days are very short, in terms of lights. Even
if the temperature average is around 10-15°C, many times the wind is blowing
strongly.

The
closest village is Scauri at about 4 kilometers, where you can find grocery,
bakery, post office and a pharmacy and believe or not some gift shops!!!
Scauri also offer the only movie theater in the island that is managed by
the local priests. In the area there is also a very good restaurant called
"La Nicchia" where we strongly suggest to try the grilled jumbo shrimp (gamberoni)
with the "ambrosia", the nectar of gods, the natural honey from zibibbo
grapes...orgasmic!!! The closest beach is "Punta Tre Pietre" at about two
kilometers, easy to locate since you can still see the skeleton of an abandoned
hotel. Also if you go to "La Vela" restaurant ask about the place to swim,
you'll reach an almost secret place! |
