Ladakh
12 August - 2 September 2007

One of the downturns of resuming a “normal” life after 18 months traveling is that you have to restart planning trips that fit 2-3 week periods. The upside of leading a working life in France, is to be able to take more than one 3 week holiday a year!
So 3 months after Cuba, it was Northern India.

I met up with Cristina, Stefania and Nicola in Delhi.
Our final destination being Indian Tibet, stopping at the Tibetan Colony in Delhi and in Mc Leod Ganj (the residence of the Dalai Lama and Tibetan Government in exile) seemed a good way to start our journey.

We then continued overland from Manali to Leh, taking a couple of detours to the lakes Tso Moriri and Pangong Tso.
Ladakh’s dramatic and awesome geology struck us as soon as we went over the first pass.
We spent days driving through continuously changing, rocky landscapes, under deep blue skies, at 4000-5000 m of altitude.

In Leh we found the ideal homestay at Yangdol’s. We fell in love with our host family and their lovely home and garden. Coming back to Leh after our trek and after the Nubra Valley, felt just like coming home.

Amritsar in Punjab was our last stop before going back to Delhi. Our night visit to the Golden Temple, the holiest shrine for Sikhs, was simply magic.
