TOURNAMENT RULES

1) The Tournament regards the Slav defence, so first two moves of every match must be:

1.c4 c5 OR 1.c4 Nf6

2)Due to peculiarity of E-mail playing, is impossible to control all ways to play a match ( i mean, if you play with computer help, opening books help and so on ), so there are NOT limitations about using every help you need to play the game.

3)The tournament will consist of three Rounds:
a) A knock-out round, in which every player will play both Black and White simultaneously
b) 2 Italian rounds, where the 8 players who will survive to a) will meet 3 other players, playing both Black and White simoultaneously. In this rounds, every Win will count as 1 point, a draw will be 1/2- 1/2 , a lose will be 0 points.
c) The winners of rounds will meet each other in the Final, playing simultaneously black and white. Winner is the first player who will reach 5 points ( 1 point win, 1/2 draw, 0 lose)

5) The official notation of tournament is English notation. If players agree in using a local notation, white player must tell it to the tournament director, together with 1st move of the match, showing ALL the meanings of chosen Notation

ENGLISH NOTATION:

   d4 pawn from d2 to d4
  Nf3 k(N)ight in f3
  Bb4 Bishop in b4
  Rb1 Rook in b1
  Qd3 Queen in d3
  Kh1 King in h1
  0-0 king-side castling
  0-0-0 queen-side castling
  + check
  # checkmate

 Rad1 Rook from a1 to d1

5) The miminum play-time is 10 moves in 30 days. The White player must send his first move in cc to the director
( vito.calvani@iol.it ) At the end of 10th Black move, the White player must send to director a message containing all moves done in the match ( Better if in PGN format) The director will immediately confirm the received message, and the play-time will restart from 0 for other 10 moves in 30 days.

6) If a player can't play the minimum play-time required, he must advise both opponent and director, telling how many days he'll be out of playing. The director reserves the right to decide if player request is good enough to let him go on play.

7) The tournament will start Monday 3 March. Director will send to all players the Knock-out List of matches. If possible, he will send each player name and E-mail address of opponent. If not possible, he'll write all E-mail addresses in the Knock-Out List.

TOURNAMENT FAQ

A) I sent my move to opponent, but it seem that his E-mail Address is not existing.

- Look at the correct address.
- resend your move the day after
- If nothing happens, wait for three days, send again your move and send a cc message to director explaining the problem.

B) I sent my move, but i didn't receive any answer
- Wait 7 days and if nothing happens, resend your move
- wait 7 days again, resend your move and communicate problem to director, sending him a cc mail

C) My opponent send me an illegal move
- Check moves done previously, be sure of illegality and communicate it at your opponent

D) I realize my last move was illegal or wrong in my plain
- If move is illegal, send correction to your opponent
- if move is wrong but legal... well... What is done is done...no way to correct it.

I hope this is sufficiently clear as Rules of Tournament. I'm sorry for my bad English, but I'm sure you can understand it all. If you have some doubts about rules, contact me at: vito.calvani@iol.it
