1. Arriving in Bologna

If you get to Bologna by plane you can reach the Academy area by taxi or bus (called aerobus). If you get here by train the Academy is just ten minutes' walk from the railway station.

Students must go to the Erasmus Office as soon as they can, at 54, Via delle Belle Arti, 40126 BOLOGNA; tel.: +39-051-243064 o 244252, fax: +39-051-253032.

For registration you will need:

· Two passport-sized photographs

· An identity document

You will be issued with:

· A declaration from the Academy to be handed in to the immigration office of the main Bologna Police Station (Foreigners' Office)

· The Academy card

Before leaving Bologna, students must ask the Erasmus Office for a certificate regarding their studies in Bologna.

2. Accommodation

As concerns lodgings for Erasmus students, at the present time the Academy does not provide student halls nor does it provide a specific service like the university, so the exchange of lodgings between incoming and outgoing students is the best solution, and at times the only one. The Erasmus Office does however collaborate in searching for lodgings for foreign students, who have to advise us beforehand of their arrival and the length of their stay in Bologna.

In private household accommodation, a bed on a double or single room, with use of the kitchen and the bathroom, can cost between 300,000 and 600,000 lire per month (about 155 to 310 Euro), respectively; the cost varie sin relation to the distance of the accommodation from the historic centre and its quality.

3. Transport

Bologna is sitauted in the north of Italy and is the chief town of the Emilia-Romagna region; it is an important railway and road junction and has a modern international airport.

The International Airport "G. Marconi", 84, Via Triumvirato, Borgo Panigale, Bologna, (tel.: +39-051-6479615)

Throughout the week, the airport is connected to the city by a dedicated bus service (aerobus, runs every half an hour between 6,00 AM and 11:20 PM); the bus ticket costs 7,000 lire up to the terminus (the Railway Station), while it is 3,000 lire if you get off at an intermediate stop. The airport and the railway station are also linked by the no.91 bus, costing 1,800 lire. Journey time is about 30 minutes to the airport.

Main railway station F.S., Piazza Medaglie d'Oro, (tel.: +39-051-246490)

Young people aged below 26 can buy a Green card (40,000 lire, 22 ECU) that provides a 20% discount on all the Italian railway trains. For the Intercity (or Eurocity) trains and Eurostar you always have to pay the supplement. Always remember to punch your ticket before getting on the train.

Azienda Trasporti Consorziali ATC, 3, Via Saliceto, 40128; (tel.: +39-051-350301/350303)

The bus ticket costs 1,800 lire and lasts for one hour on all the urban routes; it must be punched at the start of the bus journey. Bus tickets cannot be purchased on board the bus but only at the newsagent's, tobacconist's and ATC customer service points. At the ATC points in Piazza Re Enzo, Piazza XX Settembre (bus station) and Piazza Medaglie d'oro (railway station) you can get a free map of the public transport in the province of Bologna. It is worth buying a 'citypass' (7 runs at 10,000 lire), and there are also monthly and annual season tickets at a reasonable price.

Taxi (tel.: +39-051-372727/534141)

In town calling a taxi costs 4,500 lire, and to this you have to add the kilometers covered at a rate of 1,500 lire/km (at night, on Sundays and on public holidays the cost is higher).
