1. Cost of living in Bologna

Bologna is an expensive town to live in. A student can expect to have monthly costs of between 1,000,000 lire - 1,200,000 lire. This is a possible break-down of costs:

Lodgings 350.000 - 550.000 lire(180 - 285 ECU)

Food 300.000-400.000 Lire (155 - 207 ECU)

Transport, entertainments, etc. 300.000-400.000 lire (155 - 207 ECU)

 

 

2. Tourist information

All the information about events, museums, exhibitions, lectures are available at the Council Public Information Office, Palazzo d'Accursio Piazza Maggiore, 6 - Bologna, Tel. +51/203040 and Fax +51/268770, from Monday to Friday 9 AM to 7 PM (Saturday from 9 AM to 1 Pm)

 

 

3. Shops, banks, postal services, telephones

Shops in Bologna are open weekday mornings (including Saturdays) from 9 to 12.30, and in the afternoons from 3.30 to 7:30 (closed Thurday afternoons); the main shopping streets are in the town centre (Via dell'Indipendenza, Via Ugo Bassi, Via Rizzoli and Via dell'Archiginnasio). On Fridays and Saturdays there is a flea market at the 'Montagnola' offering a wide range of new and used clothes, bric-à-brac and curious objects.

Banks open from Monday to Friday, 8.20 AM to 1.20 PM, and from 2.40 to 3.30; they are shut at weekends.

The main post office in Piazza Minghetti is open every day except for Sundays (times 8.20 AM -1.20PM; 2 PM- 5 PM); all the other post offices ar eopen until 2 PM.

Telecom is in Piazza VIII Agosto, (opening times: 8 AM - 10 PM). Along the streets and in public places the phone operate with coins and pre-charged phone cards (5,000, 10,000 and 15,000 lire).

 

 

4. Sport

The sports activities of the Academy students are organised by the Centro Universitario Sportivo Bolognese (CUSB), Via S. Giacomo 9/2, 40126 BOLOGNA, tel.: +39-051-255959 (Monday-Friday: 9,30 AM - 1,30 PM); the Erasmus students can do all kinds of sport at the CUSB.

In order to register you will need:

· A certificate proving registration at the Academy

· 15,000 lire for the yearly membership card

· A passport-sized photograph

· A medical health certificate

 

With the CUSB card you can:

 

· Particpate in all the sports activites organised by the CUSB

· practise sports and take part in courses held at gymnasiums, at sports clubs and swimming pools associated to the CUSB at discount prices

· buy sports goods at discount prices in the shops having agreements with CUSB

 

 

5. Entertainment

People living in Bologna love entertainment and night-life, so the city is full of places to meet friends and stay up until the crack of dawn! Typical of such places are the osterie where you can sip good wine and watch cabaret or listen to good music. In the summer in the town parks there are open-air discos, cinema, classical music and jazz concerts. Cinemas offer latest films (Prima visione) and not so recent films (Seconda visione), and d'essai cinemas, offering good quality entertainment. Theatres offer prestigious plays with some of the top actors in Italy. To have up-to-date information on what's on in town and nearabouts there are lots of magazines and newsletters available, many of which are free.
