1. Study organisation

The Fine Arts Academy of Bologna proposes four areas (otherwise known as 'schools'): painting, sculpting, decoration and scenography. The students must pass, over the four-year course of study, a total number of exams ranging between 17 and 21, according to the stream chosen.

The course, all of which annual, are 'core' courses (compulsory), or 'modules' (chosen by the student). Each student must organise his or her own plan of studies, distributing the chosen modules over the four years (9 for painting and scenography, 8 for sculpting, 6 for decoration).

The qualification awarded, after the discussion of the dissertation (artistic and theoretical test), is a diploma.

There is also a Free School of the Nude, lasting four years, at the end of which a certificate is awarded; this course only comprises the teaching of Painting, History of Art, and Engraving Techniques.

2. Courses

Each course is annual in duration, and attendance is compulsory. The student must pass an exam for each course, at the end of the cycle of lessons and according to the official exam calendar.
