Falck informs

Actelios S.p.A.

Actelios S.p.A. is active in the production of energy from waste as well as biomass. The Falck Group company is destined to be the Italian leader in the design, building and operation of plants generating electricity from renewable sources

In November 2001, the Shareholders’ Meeting of CMI, a Falck and Agarini Groups enterprise listed on the Milan Bourse, dealing since 1999 with all activities pertinent to waste treatment in addition to energy from waste and biomass, green lighted the company’s partial spin-off via its incorporation into the newly named offshoot Actelios S.p.A. controlled by the Falck Group and featuring production of electricity from renewable sources as its core business.

Actelios was listed on the Stock Exchange on February 25, 2002.

Actelios field of activities are the following:

  • production of energy from renewable sources (waste and biomass) through its plants located in Trezzo sull’Adda (Milano) www.termotrezzo.it, Granarolo dell’Emilia (Bologna) www.feafrullo.it and Rende (Cosenza).

  • integrated engineering services provided through Elettroambiente specially as support for companies participating in “Progetto Sicilia” (Palermo Energia Ambiente, Platani Energia Ambiente and Tifeo Energia Ambiente) that envisages the erection of integrated waste disposal systems in the provinces of Palermo, Trapani, Augusta and Agrigento.

  • plant operations and maintenance pertinent to biomass and waste to energy, on behalf of both the Group and Third Parties through its subsidiary Ambiente 2000, born out of the joint venture with the U.S. multinational Covanta Energy.

Actelios offers the following competitive advantages:

  • experience in the building and operations of hi-tech complex plants in accordance with the Best Available Practice.

  • financial solidity and credit access, also availing of Project Financing.

  • expertise in managing relations with the local territories where projects are based.

  • a proven know-how capacity in managing alliances and partnerships.

Actelios makes exclusive use of renewable fuels (waste and biomass) which implies that existing natural resources, like coal and hydro-carbons, are not strained.
Furthermore, Actelios has been building enhanced efficiency plants that allow for greater electricity production with lesser quantities of fuel which in turn translates into lower emissions into the atmosphere, well below the ceiling allowed by legislation in force.

Future programmes and strategies

  • completion and commissioning of plants under construction.

  • integration and synergy between WTE (Waste to Energy) plants and operations and maintenance activities (O&M).

  • strategic alliances for the building of new plants.

  • a selective acquisition of projects featuring a short-term payback

Additional goals
Several new initiatives and projects that answer to the following features are also on the drawing board:

  • land availability for the construction of wind power plants>

  • quality/quantity of the extent of wind

  • possibility of access/connection with the grid under sustainable technical and financial terms

  • processing of all clearance procedures as needed.
