Historical Background
The Imperial Japanese Army Air Force High Command comunicates
to his troops involved in the Birmanian offensive:
"Imphal is the gateway to India! If we force this gate and entrench beyond it, we will be able to push back any British offensive in this vital area of the empire until the victory against the Americans."
7th March 1944: The Japanese begin the Imphal-Kohima offensive from northern Burma into Assam, India.
14th March 1944: The British are forced to withdraw towards Imphal in Assam, while fighting a bitter rearguard action …A Japanese advance through Burma has isolated the British garrison at Imphal.During the three-month siege, 150,000 men have had to rely entirely on air supply for their survival. More than 400 tons of stores have had to be flown daily into a heavily guarded valley, with only three squadrons of Spitfires available for air defense.
The Imperial Japanees Army Air Force is going to launch a big airstrike on Imphal, their objective is to destroy the supplies of the defenders.
Some RAF Spitfire squadrons have been transferred in North west India near the Birmanian border and are now ready for the air defence of Imphal.
Destroy it, destroy it at all costs! This is the order for the Raising Sun’s pilots.
The duty of the RAF fighter squadrons is to defend it, defend it at all costs.
