ITALY 1943
–Their finest hour-
.. Italy, summer 1943, allies are knocking at the rear entrance of Europe: southern Italy...
What
initially appears as an easy game for the allies is going to become the
longest western-European campaign, where some of World War 2 fiercest ground and air battles were
fought…Both on the ground and in the air..
THE
ADVENTURE
PACKS SYSTEM
Revive those epic days from many of points of
view!..
Thanks to the registration system of this scenario, u will have the
possibility to join many different air and ground units trying many different
planes and vehicles in combat.
This by selecting one of the six adventure packs
(3 for allies and 3 for axis): each pack is made 4 different war experiences,
in four different battles…
For example by choosing “Allied Orange pack” in Frame 1 you
will join a P47 ground attack unit while frame 3 will see you
fighting House-by-house armor urban fights with a scout unit of the Usarmy.

THE BATTLEGROUNDS
Frame
1, THE BEACHHEADS
9th July 1943, allied invasion of Sicily begins...
Allies are landing in several
points, supported by the mightiest fleet of all times (2590 ships) and by
several airborne attacks.
In the Syracuse area,
while the British meet with little German
resistance, the U.S. forces are held back by strong counter-attacks of the
Hermann Goring and the Italian Livorno Divisions.
The defenders counterstrike is violent enough to manace of pushing the US
forces back to the mediterranean waves..
Elsewhere the invasion of Sicily is appearing as an one-sided game, but not
here, here the battle will be hot, and the result uncertain...Both in the air
and on the ground.

Frame 2, NIGHT FLASHES
Every night with any weather British bombers are
crossing the mediterranean sea to carry their deadly payload on the italian
cities.
The metropolitan defence is completely up to the
italian night-fighters, but with few radars and with unrelyable radios,
catching the bombers is resulting
an almost impossible task for them.
Also the axis launch his daring attacks deep in enemy territory every night ,
often managing to avoid the efficent allied night patrols.
But tonight there's something different....Tonight
the sky is clear and the moon is full.........
..Sudden flashed and burning comets are expected tonight....

Frame
3, Messina:
Fighting in the city
The battle for Sicily is almost over, Germans and
Italians are having their little Dunkerque.
They are trying to save as many men and equipments as possible trough the
channel of Messina.
In order to achieve this objective the city and the harbour of Messina must be
hold as long as possible.
The fightings have reached the city:
house-by-house, street-by-street, from the sky and on the ground...
Elsewhere the struggle for Sardinian skies has two contenders: the Royal
Navy's Fleet Air Arm and some of the best pilots of the Italian air force.

Frame
4, "Their finest hour"
The four engined American heavies
of 1943 appear as monsters from another era, when compared to the
few Whitleys that bombed Turin during the first allied raid on Italy on
12 June 1940...
For years Regia Aeronautica's pilots had to fight
a technologically superior enemy...
But in the late summer of 1943 a paradox was going
to happen: just short before the dismemberment of their whole air force, the
italian fighter pilots had "Their finest hour" achieving
spectacular results in aerial combats over peninsular Italy...
Especially
some furious air-battles developed,
in central Italy's area, where heavilly escorted USAAF bombers met aggressive
italian units, equipped with new modern
fighters like the Macchi C.205 Veltro.
Probably the fiercest of those battles was
fought on 27 August 1943, when a large raid was spotted inbound Italy's
capital, Rome....

ALTITUDE
RULES
in this scenario
- Max alt in frame 1 and in frame 3 will be 22k for everyone.
-
Ma
Wind layers will disturb or destroy higher-flyers..
..During
frame 1 and 3
- from 18 to 20k--> 15 kts wind, no raise changing direction
frequently simulating high alt flight instability (->difficult aming and
flying).
- from 20 to 22k--> 60kts wind, no raise and changing direction
frequently (very poor precision, area bombing only is possible ).
- 22-30k---> 120 kts 120 raise wind (=plane destroyed)
..During
frame 2 and 4:
- from 18 to 22k--> 15 kts wind, no raise changing direction
frequently simulating high alt flight instability (->difficult aming and
flying).
-from 22 to 24k--> 60kts wind, no raise and
changing direction frequently (very poor precision, area bombing only is
possible ).
24-30k---> 120 kts 120 raise wind (=plane
destroyed)
FAQ
-Why no ships? [for CMs: Because I dont
want this to be the first ships-scenario of AH, as
pacific-ships-scenarios are for now more suited for such role, ] and
also because I am already working on a future 3 frames scenario called
"Mediterraneum" with ships in Med.
- Will not smoke layers kill framerate?? Nope cause in-fight the planes will be
sually at least 5-10k away from them
and they will be small, thus not influencing much frame-rate, and gameplay...
- Isnt using f6f to simulate the Reggiane Re2002 unrealist?
Nope, the Reggiane engineers took inspiration from
the characteristics of two american planes when projected the "Ariete",
those planes were the F4F (Martlet for the Fleet air arm) and the P47
Razorback. The result was a plane with performances, structure and armament
wich were really similar to the Hellcat.
Also F6F simulating RE2002 has been already used in 2 online scenarios,
"Operation Husky" and "Invasion Italy" (Air Warrior III
comunity).
- Isnt using B26 simulating Dornier
217 unrealistic? Not too much, the two planes are very similar in some
aspects like turning radius, rate of climb and top speed.
Bigger differences can be found in: firepower, the Dornier war far more lethal
and well suited for the buff killing job, being armed with 4x20mms and 4x13mms
[but the Marauder is still better armed than the 1x12mm Ju-88] ; shape
and insignas are
a greatly different too (obviously). But i think that the compromise can be
accettable.
