Paolo’s equipment

Paolo usually uses a 1970 Gibson L-5CES equipped with an active Bartolini TXE pick-up, neck position.
Pick up is 18 v charged and it was constructed by Bartolini on Tuck’s detailed list.
Tone controls are by-passed. Strings are Ernie Ball round wound (0.11, 0.14, 0.18, 0.28, 0.46 and 0.56) with a medium-high action (12/64 inch from 12th fret to top of sixth string; 8/64 inch from 12th fret to top of first string).
The original wooden bridge has been substituted with a tune-o-matic bridge with metal inserts.
The pick up is angled 23/64 inch from pickup to sixth string, 10/64 inch from pickup to first string.
.
All these changes were made to obtain a more cleaned up tone, with definition in the higher notes, to listen to the harmonics and strings’ peculiar sound. ..
No ampli is used: guitar, entering a volume pedal (Ernie Ball or Morley) is directly connected to the mixer.
The only effect Paolo uses is a reverber (at the moment a YAMAHA SPX 990).
The sound is equalized through a WHITE 4400 parametric Eq.
Paolo also possesses an Ibanez mod. Pat Metheny, and a small travel guitar specially hand made by the luthien Carlo Pierini.
Both the two guitars are equipped with the same electronics of L-5 and their sound is very similar.
The travel guitar was made in 2001 to allow Paolo to take it with him at the JazzCamp in California. Its original design, its smooth keyboard and the brightness of the sound made it appreciable by many guitar players at the Camp.
