60 km South of Fianarantsoa on RN7 lies Ambalavao, one of the most pleasant villages I passed in the Central Highlands.

The striking red colour of the earth, the impressive scenery, the vicinity of Andringitra and Anja Parks, the impressive Wednesday market and the cattle market enticed me into spending a few days in this area.

50 km South from Ambalavao on a dismally surfaced track, Andringitra National Park was just another unforgettable experience. With no public transport to the park, I cycled there and back and spent a day hiking among the peaks of the park.
