DECEMBER SCIENCE NEWS
Dear
Parents and Students,
with the a new laboratory and the recent arrival of new computers, the science and technology sector of the St Louis should make massive advances this year.
The
year 2002/2003
is also the official EDUCATIONAL SCIENCE YEAR in the UK and Europe. Over the next 12 months all areas of
society are coming together
to help promote science in
primary and secondary education. The St Louis School has joined this venture and will provide extra science in areas not
necessarily on the daily curriculum, while keeping in contact with
developments in Britain..A number of areas will include:
1. SCHOOL SCIENCE WEBSITE
The
science school website was launched at the start of this year just in time for science
year, designed and developed for the needs of students studying science at our school and links
wondefully to the celebrations at science year.
The site was updated over the summer and has recently achieved 5000 hits with guestbook registrations including students from as far afield as New Zealand,Australia,Canada and the Middle East.It has recieved recognition from the Institute of Physics and provides instant authorised access to the major British educational bodies and the best world educational Science sites .
1. Interactive research facilities using
the best educational weblinks currently available, including an interactive
periodic table.
2. A display of exemplary science
coursework by St Louis students at all levels.
3. A provision and understanding of the
immense variety of careers open to students studying science.
4
Interactive
revision of KS3 and KS2 …with all the answers!
5 Slideshows,photographs
,animations and interactive science games exist for the more relaxed browser.
6.Link to the science year celebrations
So
get browsing and please sign the guestbook.
2.DATA LOGGING
We will use data logging facilities to carry out most of our practical investigations ,which is the adoption of computer based technology in conjunction with top of the range sensing devices.
3.SCIENCE
EVENING
In the
summer term the annual open evening will
allow the students to show off their modern practical skills to their parents.
4.
JUNIOR SCIENCE
We hope
to initiate frequent visits to the laboratories from the KS2 primary students to
see interesting science practicals carried out by the older science students.
5.CAN
YOU HELP?
We would
also like to invite guest speakers from the parent body
to share their expertise in scientific matters with sixth form
students. Please let us know if you are interested by contacting the school
science department.
If you
have any any further ideas for SCIENCE YEAR please post them on the school
science site guestbook.
