Life in Changzhou
Work - Lavoro I came to China to work in Controlling within CBC-Iveco, one of the three Chinese joint-ventures of Iveco. The 18 months that I am spending here are part of the Fiat GRA.DE program I have joined in January 2001. CBC-Iveco is one of the biggest urban bus manufacturers for the Chinese market (appr. 7000 units a year), it counts more than 2,000 employees. Currently there are 10 expatriates and 2 Grades (Joyce and me) working in Changzhou. Working in a Chinese company is at the same time challenging, tough, interesting, frustrating, amusing and amazing. The difficulties in communicating and the cultural differencies are huge obstacles to the introduction of Western procedures and processes and patience (a lot of patience) and perseverance are the best working skills. If you want to know more, you can check the Changzhou Chronicle Pt.6 ("Working in China") and Changzhou Chronicle Pt.2 ("Firefighting").
