ci sono diversi programmi che lo fanno, non so quale sia il migliore ma io ho trovato
sector access su www.softseek.com che pare sia buono
(ma non ho ancora mai fatto il ripristino...!!!).
Comunque il backup lo devi fare da dos perchè win 2000 non fa leggere e scrivere i boot
sectors (giustamente!).
Fallo al più presto un backup, se io lo avessi fatto ora non sarei nei casini (Murphy è
sempre in agguato!)

Dal bios della m/b disabilita "SDRAM interleaving" e setta la CAS latency della
ram a 3 ( se si può, sulla mia K7M si)
Io l'ho risolto così e adesso non freeza più :-)

intanto potresti crearti un disco d'avvio per win 2000, cosi' sei al sicuro.
per crearlo, basta prendere un floppy e formattarlo rigorosamente sotto win
2000, e poi metterci su i files:
boot.ini
arcldr.exe
arcsetup.exe
bootfont.bin
bootsect.dos
ntdetect.com
ntldr.sys
Infine, provalo, cambiando la sequenza di boot dal bios, di modo che cerchi prima su A:.
Ma ripeto: la reinstallazione di win 98 non dovrebbe sovrascrivere il boot loader di win
2k.

Usi Easy Cd Creator?
Avevo lo stesso problema.
Risolto disinstallando Easy CD Creator 4.2c che è pura monnezza e
sostituendo con Nero.
Leggi un po' qua sotto:
Can't uninstall Adaptec Easy CD 4 / DirectCD 3.01 - preventing hibernation
Adaptec know what the Hibernate problem is with the 4.02 update and it
is a file called "cdralw2k.sys". When 4.02 is installed it adds filters to
the registry so that this file is used instead of "cdrom. sys" .When the
Adaptec software is uninstalled the registry is not reverted to use
"cdrom. sys" and hence the Hibernate problem continues.
You have to edit the registry to stop the Adaptec driver after uninstall.
The critical keys that the software leaves behind after being uninstalled
are in:
HKLM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFCl-087002BEl0318}
In this section you will find two keys called "UpperFilters" &
"LowerFilters" and you will need to delete both of these keys and reboot
to restore win2K to the default CD driver. You should also search for other
keys containing "cdralw2k" and "cdr4 2K" and delete these then delete
these two files AFTER the reboot. Note you-cannot delete the references
to these in "ENUM" as they are generated from the class driver, but they
will not be there after the reboot.

"multi" = controller con bios abilitato (scsi o eide) - primo valore:0
"scsi" = controller senza bios o bios disabilitato - primo valore: 0
(se nella linea di boot.ini c'e' la voce "scsi", nella root del hd ci
deve essere anche il file ntbootdd.sys)
"disk" = ha valore x la voce "scsi" - primo valore: 0
"rdisk" = ha valore x la voce "multi" - primo valore: 0
"partition" = be'... indovina - primo valore: 1
