Travel in China

Qingdao

(4-6  April 2003)

Qingdao is the capital of Shandong Province and has been under German administration for 15 years, at the beginning of 1900. The German legacy is still intact and contributes to Qingdao's peculiar athmosphere. Cobblestone streets, Protestant and Catholic Churches, European-style villas on the hills: you could even immagine being in Europe, if it wasn't for the Chinese.

Sometimes written "Tsingdao", this town is known worldwide for its beer - another German inheritance.

Conveniently located on a Peninsula on the Yellow Sea, Qingdao is a very pleasant, clean and relaxing town. It's the only place in China where I saw taxi drivers belting up!

Qingdao will host the 2008 Olympic Regatta. I visited Qingdao at the beginning of April 2003.
