Travel in China Cycling Around Tai Hu (April 2004)
The week before leaving Changzhou, Fred and me spent 5 days cycling around Tai Hu, the lake in the South of Wuxi. We left with our bikes and the tent and spent most of the time off the beaten track, on small countryside trails, enjoying the good weather, some remote villages and the company of curious peasants. Exiting Jiangsu Province and entering Zhejiang, we found an amazing road right on the lake. It felt relly good to be away from the traffic! The nights were still cold, and camping in the fields with a light sleeping bag wasn't too comfortable, but it was part of the fun! On our third day we reached Tong Li, one of Jiangsu's Watertowns. On the way to Suzhou, Fred's bike broke down and we had to walk to the Imperial Channel, where we asked a boat for a lift back to Changzhou. It was the best way to end my year and a half year in China: entering Changzhou by boat!
