Travel in China

Xi'An

(August 2003)

Xi'An is famous worldwide for the Terracotta Army. It is an impressive work, indeed.

The weather conditions when we visited, though, made it hard to appreciate the rest: in the heat and the mist of August Xi'An appeared to be just another big Chinese town, with a couple more historic buildings, perhaps, but nothing special.

The Muslim part of town is interesting (there is a big mosque in a peculiar Chinese style and a lively night market with food stalls that sell mutton kebab).

In the pictures, one example of the respect for privacy at a bank and the brief encounter with an English-speaking old man (a rarity!), who got sentimental when we said goodbye.
