Out of Scheme

Pinna and the Southern Italy, Pinna photographer of the reality; these are the most common formulas to define Pinna's work.
But he doesn't limited himself to consider the photographic image only for its witness role, but he showed deep technical and formal interest, more evident from the 50s on. Pinna, for example, was one of the very first italian reportes  specialized  in the use of the colored film, already experimented in his first travel abroad (august 1953). His experimental trend is clearer if we consider, for example, his usage of an unusual film size as the panoramic one, between 1962 and 1971, for which he was considered the best national specialist.

Pinna's portrait production is not so well known, even if his interest in human figure was never abandoned. If in the subject of the anthropological reportages Pinna doesen't distinguish the introspective sensibility from the willing to discover the biographical and cultural contest in which they are placed, the photographer preferred images where physiognomical connotation, gestures and objects in the same way contributes to the psychological definition of the portraited people.
